Pakistani House Wiring & Cable Selection Guide
The definitive technical guide for contractors, electricians, and homeowners. Compare imperial gauges (3/29, 7/29, 7/36, 7/44, 7/52) against metric mm² sizes, maximum continuous amperage, and circuit breakers.

Appliance-Specific Wiring Guidelines
Inverter Air Conditioners
For 1.0 Ton and 1.5 Ton Inverter ACs, always install 7/29 (2.5mm²) copper cable. For 2.0 Ton split units, 7/36 (4.0mm²) is recommended to prevent starting compressor strain and warm wires.
Electric & Instant Geysers
Water heating elements draw 2,000W to 3,500W continuously. Use dedicated 7/29 (2.5mm²) or 7/36 (4.0mm²) wires with a dedicated 20A/25A DP switch. Never run a geyser on 3/29 lighting circuits.
Solar PV & Inverters
DC power drops directly waste generated solar units. Always use 6mm² or 10mm² flexible pure tinned/copper solar cables between PV panels and hybrid/on-grid inverters to eliminate loss.
How to Detect Sub-Gauge (Under-Gauge) Wire Fraud
Unscrupulous retailers across Pakistan often label 7/31 or 7/32 sub-gauge wire as "7/29", thickening the outer PVC jacket to make the roll feel heavy. Sub-gauge wire generates resistance, overheats, causes fires, and wastes 15% to 25% extra electricity on your meter.
